Tires are really the reason we get anywhere in our cars and trucks. They do way more than we give them credit for. In fact, having bad tires is a bad idea for everyone because it can endanger many people’s lives.
At Advance Auto Service, we look carefully at your tires. Like other car components, they need proper care to perform well and last as long as the manufacturers intended. Because they are in constant contact with the road, they’re vulnerable to wear and tear and won’t last as long as the rest of your vehicle.
The great thing is that proper maintenance of your tires is not difficult. Just follow these tips and you’ll be good to go.

Check the air pressure

Air pressure is the air in the inner lining of your tires. All tires have a recommended air pressure that is ideal for the operation of the car. You can find your recommended air pressure in your owner’s manual or on a sticker typically placed on the driver-side door. Air pressure is important because it maintains the integrity of the tires. A leading cause of tire-related crashes is under-inflated tires. You might have an indicator for pressure on your dashboard. If not, remember to use a manual pressure gauge to check your tire air pressure, especially if you’ve been driving in cold weather, and put in more air if needed.

Rotate your tires

Rotating your tires is important because it ensures that one tire does not have more wear than another and affects the balance when driving. During rotation, our technicians remove each wheel and place it in a different location on the vehicle to ensure even tire tread wear. Your owner’s manual usually contains a recommended rotation frequency, so follow it as much as possible. The standard is usually a rotation every 5000-7000 miles.

Inspect your tires frequently

Since tires are put under a high degree of strain, it is a good idea to physically inspect your tires frequently. Check for any slight damage, cracks, bulges, and objects that may have punctured the tire, such as nails, screws, glass, or stones. We recommend doing these inspections as frequently as possible, whether daily or weekly.
Your tire treads provide grip on the road when you drive, enabling you to drive on different types of terrain from smooth asphalt roads to wet, slick dirt roads. If the grooves in the tire have worn down, your vehicle won’t grip the road effectively. Prevent this by checking your treads frequently. The simplest way is to insert a quarter into the groove. If you can see the entire head, you need to replace the tire soon.
